<strong>NCAKE</strong>

NCAKE is the Northern California Association of Kodály Educators. It is affiliated with the national organization, OAKE, the Organization of American Kodály Educators.Kodály Educators use a method of music education that is based on principles developed by noted Hungarian composer, Zoltán Kodály.

The NCAKE Mission
is to share the strength, skills and challenges of music teachers involved in developing the Kodály Philosophy of learning, teaching, and making music as a core of civilized human society.

Kodály Philosopy
of music education was inspired by Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967), and is based on a vision of the place of music in the intellectual, emotional, physical and social development of every child. Incorporating ideas from many cultures, it places singing at the foundation of musical development . Authentic folk songs and masterpieces of classical music form the basis of the curriculum, in accordance with Kodály's belief that for a child's education "only the best is good enough." Kodály music education is known for its sequential development of skills, emphasis on music literacy, and strong choral programs, a natural flowering of a singing-based curriculum
