with Kit Eakle
Saturday, April 4, 2009, 9:30 am - 1:00 pm Reed Elementary School, 1199 Tiberon Blvd., Tiburon, CA
Kit Eakle will present principles of Music Listening in the classroom. He will demonstrate ways listening can be tied in to ALL subject areas in today’s schools; and bring to children the legacy of the musicians of all cultures, who have come before them. The presentation will include a survey of children’s literature connecting to compositions suitable for classroom listening; ways to implement a school-wide listening program; activities for focusing children’s listening; and a survey of currently available music listening programs, including the presenters own book “Listen to the Music a classroom listening guide.” Specific connections between listening and the Kodály curriculum will also be suggested.
Kit Eakle received his Kodály certification and a Master's in Music and Art Education at the University of Victoria. He taught in the Nanaimo School District in British Columbia, and was Music Advisor for the Prince George School District, and Fine Arts Coordinator for the Ministry of Education in Victoria, British Columbia. He was Program Director for ArtsEdge, the Kennedy Center's online Arts Education website. He now teaches at Reed Elementary School in Tiburon, California. Mr. Eakle has written a music listening program called Listen to the Music, and a prize-winning children's "MusicTale" and picture book, In My Grandmother's Garden. REGISTER HERE.
