Advocacy Links

These are a few of links that can be used to help support you in efforts to convince schools, administrators and politicians to support Music Education. These were compiled to support NCAKE president Kit Eakle's Spring '05 Newsletter article.

Research Supporting the Importance of Music Education:

Frances Rauscher's faculty page - at U of Wisc., Oshkosh. The PDF links at bottom the page lists all her writings.

Musica Research website - provides all issues of MuSICA Research Notes. MRN is a great compendium of research supporting the importance of music education.


American Psychological Society Journal - Article of latest research from Dr. Glenn Schellenberg of the University of Toronto showing music education leads to improved IQ test scores.

The Educational CyberPlayground - has a good compendium of recent research.

Advocacy tools:

American Music Conference’s advocacy tools - an organization for advocating for music in the schools, has pamphlets, tips for saving programs, polls, Public Service announcements, etc.

Supportmusic.com - a service to help schools districts, teachers, and parents support their local music program provided by a coalition of MANY interested organizations, including AMC (see above) and MENC.

VH1 - What You can do to "Save the Music” - a service provided by the famous music video cable channel to support music in the schools.
